We are really excited that Lucas has been gaining some weight and feeding like a monster. He isnt due to visit the hospital anytime soon, so Im not sure when he will get weighed again. Maybe we can stick him on the scale at the produce section at the grocery. But, it definitely seems like he has gotten heavier and, visually, you can definitely tell the gain in his face. His cheeks have gotten swollen and his double chin has come out in full force. Im assuming that if the every-two-hour feedings continue, well have one little chubby baby boy.
I feel bad for Tey since she hasn’t had more than 3 hours of continuous sleep in almost 3 weeks. Breastfeeding a newborn is tough work. She still doesnt want to use a bottle to feed, but soon we are planning to alternate with bottled breast milk so he gets used to it when she goes back to work. She has started to freeze and store some of her mommy juice for future 2AM feedings with daddy.
Lucass hair has turned out to be a medium brown color, which is pretty cool. A lot of people don’t believe it but my hair was almost reddish-blonde when I was a baby and Tey’s hair was brown, still is. So, it will be interesting to see how his hair color turns out. To his dismay, it will probably be thick and nappy like his dads.
His umbilical cord fell out about 3 days ago and we’ve been able to put onesies on him. Now, he doesn’t look like such a ghetto bottomless child anymore. Also, we are able to give him baths in his little tub and he is actually starting to like the warm water. At first, he pretty much hated baths, screaming and crying the whole time. Now, he gives the occasional whimper but overall chills out when he feels the warm water.
Cool First-time Dad Moment: The other night, he was super fussy and would wake up every hour. One of us had to carry him and rock him to sleep throughout the whole night. I was so sleepy and tired and was getting a little flustered. Then, for one moment, while he was sleeping in Teys arms, he had the biggest smile on face and almost giggled. I could not help it but smile at him. All of a sudden, I forgot about being tired and frustrated and just stared at the little sucker with a grin on my face.
