Burping. If you don’t do it, there will be spit up everywhere. On your shoulder, on your chest, in his crib, on your bed, etc. I’ve been told that gas issues are the most uncomfortable problems for babies. If they have air in their stomach, they get all wacky. They’ll cry and, of course, they won’t sleep. When Lucas doesn’t burp enough, you can tell by his little baby grunts. It’s almost as if he’s going to through up, he heaves like crazy. When you hear the grunts, put him on your shoulder, pat him on the back and boom, baby belch. Right back to sleep.
I’m not sure about other babies, but Lucas makes so much noise while sleeping. We have been training ourselves to analyze them. There are the grunts, the eh-eh-ehs, the wha-whas, and the super-sonic wails. He grunts when he has gas or when he is dreaming and moving in his sleep. The eh-eh-ehs are when he is just restless and wants attention. The wha-whas are when he is either startled or just uncomfortable. The super-sonic wails are when he is hungry. And that can be as often as every hour!
Lucas is almost a month old and he is getting heavier by the day. He is definitely around 8 lbs. now. The other day, it just hit me that he is getting tougher to carry around. Just 3 weeks ago, he was pretty frail, and now, he moves like crazy. He is always flailing his arms or rocking his head back and forth. Pretty crazy baby. His double chin is still growing and his legs are more solid. I’m pretty sure this 2 hour feeding schedule is making him a healthy boy.
