Last week, we brought Lucas to his doctor for his two-month wellness exam. He also received his first set of vaccinations. We had not weighed him since his since his visit at two weeks old so we have been curious as to how much he weighed. We knew he was getting bigger, but were clueless to how much weight he gained. He weighed 10 lbs. 12 oz. and measured 22.5 inches. I thought he would be around nine and a half pounds, but was pleasantly surprised.
The doctor just gave him a quick look and asked the normal questions. How was he feeding, how was his head control, etc. Everything was pretty normal. His weight and height were 50th percentile. The only thing less than average was the circumference of head which was 35th percentile. Maybe that’s why people say “He’s so little!” His smallish head makes him look tiny but, of course, the doctor said, it’s nothing to worry about.
After the doctor’s visit, the nurse came in and had four syringes with her. It was vaccine time. I can’t remember what they were for, but I know one was for Hepatitis. She gave Lucas two shots in each leg and by the fourth shot he started to cry. It wasn’t too bad considering the horror stories that we had heard about a baby’s first vaccinations. He was a pretty good boy and only cried for a short minute.
In the last three days, he has been sleeping for much longer in between feedings. He will sometimes go four or more hours just knocked out sleeping. The nurse said that he might be a little groggy after his vaccines, so we are assuming that was the reason. Most of the time, we would have to wake him up from his deep sleep to feed when four and a half hours had passed. It’s nice not to worry about feeding every two hours, but we’ll see if this continues.
