The Return of Lucas

Big Boy

The word on the street is that some family and friends are missing the photos of our little boy. I don’t think I can do the daily photo thing anymore, but I’m up for doing a weekly. I figure I can do at least one work related and one personal related post a week. That shouldn’t be too bad.

So there it is. Please look out for Lucas (and/or family) once a week. Maybe, I should pick a day…Tuesday! But for today, Thursday is fine.

Imagine That!

On Saturday, I had the pleasure of shooting a wedding with Kevin Derek in Upland, CA. I’m not too familiar with this part of Southern California, but it was a nice place…close to Mt. Baldy. The ceremony and reception was held at Imagine That!, which is a banquet facility that holds all kinds of events including weddings. The bride and groom were really cool and down-to-earth, but they were both super nervous before the ceremony. Once they saw each other, the seemed to relax and the festivities made them even more comfortable. Besides the usual reception stuff, they played some “How well do you know your spouse?” games which were really funny. I love being at receptions when everyone is laughing, having a good time, including myself. Here are some pics.

Bride
She was really nervous at this point. This was right before she saw the groom.

Groom
The groom on his Motorola Q. Slick phone…yes I’m a geek.

Flower Girl
She was such a cutie and was always by her aunt’s (the bride) side.

Cross
There was this one yellow-orange tree. I imagined a cross-process right when I saw it.

Woods
This path in the park was a nice setting. We took a bunch of shots there.

Kiss
The groom wasn’t comfortable with all the smiling, but he did like the kisses!

Married
My first shot of them as a married couple.

Dance
I love following the videographer’s light during these moments. I find that their video light gives some really nice mood lighting.

Blindfold
I loved this game. It made for some really cool shots.

Hold
They were walking around greeting everyone all night and their hands were almost always locked. Sweet.

Busta Move
This kid was a PIMP! He was seriously showing some moves.

Here’s Us

This is a sample of our first attempt at taking some promotional shots for the site. This was done indoors with a softbox, but Tey didn’t really like the way they turned out. Maybe it’s because I haven’t steamed the background yet :) Or maybe she doesn’t like standing next to me! But I figure we’ll try some outdoor shots this week.

Long Beach Love

Autumn and Tyler were married this past Saturday at the Coast Long Beach Hotel in Long Beach, CA, right next to the Queen Mary. The weather was great and the scenery was spectacular. I loved the combination of the Long Beach skyline with the surrounding palm trees and ocean. I look forward to more weddings in this area. The bride and groom were really sweet and they knew how to have fun. It was a blast to photograph them. Tey, who also came along, even reconnected with an old high-school friend who was a bridesmaid.

So overall, it was a great day for everyone. Another great experience for me as I’m learning more and more. Hopefully my future work will benefit from all of this new found knowledge and experience. Sample of my shots below.

Bride
The bride was such a cool girl. Really sweet.

Loop
She kept on forgetting to use the loop thingy on her dress and everyone kept on reminding her.

Floral
Some flowers in the reception ball room.

Bridesmaids
View from the bridesmaids looking towards the groomsmen.

Aisle
Bride and her father walking down the aisle. I had a great angle from here.

Veil
This shot was set up by Kevin. It turned out nicely.

Kiss
They really had a fun time doing their post ceremony shoot.

Stroll
This was a nice moment. Walking back towards the reception overlooking the bay.

Moon
The colors in the sky were fantastic that night. I shot this scene so many times, I couldn’t help myself.

Lights
Snuck out during dinner to get this shot. I held the camera down on a short lamp post during the 8 second exposure.

Dance
First dance. Natural light. 85mm f/1.8

Groom
Everyone was dancing from the beginning of the reception. They all knew how to have a good time. I dragged the shutter a little.

Garter
I took a lot of natural light shots during the reception. 85mm f/1.8
