New Blog Features!!

The other day, I was thinking how to make the blog a little more user friendly and I decided to make some tweaks. Nothing major, but I think they’ll help make the blog a little mo’ better. I’m still sticking with the single column layout because I really don’t like overly cluttered menus and sidebars. So for now, that’s gonna stick. Here are the new things:

  1. Subscription Feature. I really dig this one! If you don’t want to deal with an RSS reader or checking the blog everyday to see if there is something new, all you have to do is enter your email address in our subscribe page and you will get an email everytime there is a new post. Brilliant! I don’t do anything with the submitted emails, it’s all automated. Of course, you can unsubscribe anytime you want to. So if you want to do that, go subscribe now.
  2. Follow-Up Comment Notification. Ever wonder if anyone responds to your comments? Well, now you don’t have to check back to see if there is a follow up. If you click on the checkbox labeled “Notify me of followup comments via e-mail” when you enter a comment and it’s like magic! You can then manage your notifications for each post that you commented on. If you don’t want any more, you can disable it. Another sweet one!
  3. How Many Comments? This one always bugged me. I love it when blogs show you right away how many comments a post has, instead of scrolling aaaaaaalllll the way to the bottom. I duplicated the little comments bug and put it right next to the date up on top. Now you can see right away if it’s a hot topic.
  4. Send to a Friend. Now, it’s a little easier if you want to forward a post so someone out there. Clicking on the “Send this to a friend” link at the bottom of each post will open up an email dialogue that will have the post title and link all ready to go. Just pop in the email(s) that you want and send it off.
  5. Quick Bookmark Links. If anyone uses Technorati or del.icio.us for online bookmarks, there is now some text links at the bottom of the site under Misc. so you can quickly add the blog to your account. It’s not the most visible placement, but it’s not a biggie. I thought it couldn’t hurt.

That’s it!
