The Duke Family

You may remember little Amber from our session this past April. It’s time for more photos…family style so we spent some time with Mommy and Daddy (Diana and Tad) down by the water in Laguna Beach, CA. It’s hard not to take a good photo of this great looking trio and Baby Amber has got that modeling stare down! She even put a few fists full of sand in her mouth!! Here’s are some fun shots from our shoot:

Megan + Adam

I kind of like these portrait sessions late in the year. It’s not too hot and and there are less people out and about. Makes for a cool session. I met up with Megan and Adam down in Newport Beach for a few shots around town. Like most of our clients, they were not that comfortable in front of the camera. (I mean who would be with my big ole’ lens aimed right at them). But after a few minutes, they were having a good time…we got some fun stuff, some hot stuff and some “Jan” stuff. Megan is a sweetheart and the camera just loved her…Adam wasn’t to bad either! They are getting married next July and I can’t wait!

On a side note, I’ve had a few people ask how I select what photos to blog. My quick answer is that I just want a variety up there. I try not to post the same kind of stuff all the time, but sometimes I can’t help it. I have my favorite looks/poses/shots. Well, hopefully the work is good too! But really I post photos that a) try to show the full spectrum of my clients personalities b) illustrate some variety in my work and 3.) what I’m digging at the time as far as poses and post processing. I try to stick to my 10/20 rule (10 images max for Portraits and 20 max for weddings). But sometimes, I can’t help myself. Ok, enough!

Here we go:

Tey’s Big Belly, Part One

We had a relaxing Sunday and decided to take some shots of the belly before it bursts. Actually, we only had about 15 mins before the sunset and we were rushing out the door to do this. Tey wants to do more in a different outfit (go figure!), hence the Part One title. So, probably, next Sunday, we’ll try and do this again. Here are a few shots of Tey unleashing her inner model with some help from soon-to-be-big-brother Lucas.

Alice : Maternity Session

It seems to be baby season around here and we were happy to take some snapshots of Alice and her family. A little bit of greenery and a dash of beach sand made a great backdrop. Little Carisa was a little Dynamo…running around like crazy. So cute! Thanks to Alice, Davis and little Carisa for the fun time. Some highlights of our session below.

Gear heads: these were all shot with my 85mm f/1.8. Can you say Bread n’ Butter lens!

Trash the What? Trash the Dress.

I met up with a super cool group from OSP down in Laguna Beach to shoot a “Trash the Dress” session with a bunch of models/brides. For those unfamiliar, think of “Trash the Dress” as a type of bridal photo shoot where you don’t have to worry about how your dress will look for the reception. A lot of people misunderstand it and think that the dresses are being ruined, but that is rarely the case. They’re pretty good after a dry cleaning. To me, it’s really just a fun session that allows the bride and the photographer to try all kinds of creative ideas that usually end up in pretty amazing and hot images.

Anyway, I caught up with some friends and also met some really cool people that I’ve been waiting to meet for a while. There ended up being 11 brides and about 20 or so photographers and it was so fun. It was a similar experience to some of the shooting we did in Seattle, so it was kind of a cool flashback. I got pretty soaked…stupid me for wearing jeans. Just imagine how I got home! There was also a crew from the OC Register and the article is up already! Also, Elysium Productions was there to capture the whole thing…I’m sure they got some pretty funny footage. Thanks to the brides/grooms that shot with me, Kelli, Kim, Wendy, Karen & Ben, Allison & Phil and Shannon & Marcelo.

If any brides out there are interested in the concept, let me know and I’ll fill you in on the details. If you are, then you will get some HOT images!!! Check out trashthedress.com for more info. They have a good Why Trash the DressĀ ? section.

Thanks to Nataly for organizing the whole thing!

Here are some goods…I should do a slideshow!
